Several dive companies on the Kona side offer what most call a “Black Water” dive. The idea is as simple as it is exhilarating–drive out to sea, jump in the water near sunset, and float together at depth in the open ocean as darkness envelopes you. Thrilling, right?
Usually done in smaller groups and at around 50 feet deep, you’ll be amazed at what passes within view as you become part of the scene. Glowing animals of all sorts put on coloful displays–jellies, zooplankton, and more flash brilliant blues, pinks, and purples as they rise to the surface in search of food.
